About the project

Located in city of Rocklin, California at the end of Ambassador Drive on the east side of Schatz Ln in a beautiful natural environment, between single family and multifamily districts, the existing 0.7 acre lot was zoned as PD-14 and intentionally designed to be read as one cohesive structure with proportions and forms similar to those found in a multifamily development for the nearby neighborhood.

ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPT

The priority of our design is to connect the living spaces of the building structure with a green space, and to make the green space equally shared between units.

The shared green space is an asset of the proposal, but its success will require thoughtful programming and design, quality materials, and great craftsmanship. Therefore, the surrounding nature on the east, north, and west sides of the building and the inner courtyard garden were established as focal points for the green space.

The rear patios for all 1st floor units will be thoughtfully designed to engage the site. The rear yard area and placement of landscaping in between each patio will serve to differentiate between the private ownership of these spaces and common areas which allow for casual social interactions between them. The interior courtyard design and rear landscape act as meditative and collective spaces for the small community. With careful consideration given to the arrangement of balconies overlooking the courtyard or surrounding landscape, the result is a private, tranquil, convenient interaction between residents and the natural world which they share.

An intrinsic connection with the living beauty, a tranquil, shared courtyard, and a private outdoor space for each unit creates a calm, harmonious living experience.
